Introduction
The marketing module allows users to trigger content based on guest actions. For example, you can send emails to users upon them completing certain actions, such as a successful login at a particular site. This page will outline the functions of the marketing module and some of the actions you're able to complete whilst using it.

Marketing Actions
There are several options available for you when it comes to enabling triggered content to be seen by your guests. These include, sending emails based on certain actions/criteria, sending SMS messages based on certain actions/criteria and showing content post-login on the portal page.

SMS | Trigger an SMS message to the user upon completion of an action, such as logging in via a particular method. (Requires users SMS number and an SMS Gateway. See plugins. |
Trigger an email to the user upon completion of an action, such as logging in via a particular method. (Requires guest email address. See Authentication Methods. | |
Portal - Replace body content on status page | With this option, after the guest clicks to log into the network, a box will display along with any configured status page content. |
Portal - Append to body content on status page | With this option active, after the guest clicks to log into the network, a box will display along with any configured status page content. |
Portal - Replace status content | With this option active, after a guest clicks to log into the network, a box will appear replacing any configured status page content. |
Portal - Append to status content | With this option active, after a guest clicks to log into the network, a box will appear supplementing any configured status page content. |
Survey | Legacy feature, not currently in use. |
Marketing Triggers/Target Rules
Using Marketing Triggers, you can trigger content based on actions performed by your guests. See below the list of actions available.
Trigger/Target Rule | Description |
Guest Data | By selecting guest data, you can trigger content based on the fields used by guests on the portal page. For example, if a guest provides an optional email address, you could send them a thank you message/email. |
Account Status | By selecting Account Status, you can trigger content based on whether the account has been used or not. |
Recurrence | With recurrence, trigger content based on the how often the account has been used. For example, trigger a message to a repeat visitor. |
Service Tier | Trigger content based the service tier users have authenticated onto. For example, if you have several authentication methods available to your guests (Voucher/PMS/Email), each one on it's own service tier, you can trigger content based on the authentication method they choose. |
Date | Trigger content based on a certain day. For example, a Christmas message. |
Time | Trigger content based on a certain time. For example, happy hour at the bar. |
Adding a Marketing Action
Step | Description |
1 | Navigate to the marketing page using the steps above. |
2 | Click Add Marketing located at the top of the page. |
3 | A pop-up window will appear. Give your action a memorable name by typing it into the Name field. |
4 | Select the site tag type from the Tag type dropdown. |
5 | Select the site you wish to assign the marketing action to by selecting it from the Value dropdown. |
6 | Click Save. |
7 | The pop-up will disappear and you can continue with configuring your marketing action. |

Configuring a Marketing Action
Portal
Step | Description |
1 | Add a marketing action using the steps described in Adding a Marketing Action. |
2 | Within the General tab, find the medium section and select the portal dropdown. Within the dropdown you'll find the various portal actions outlined above in Marketing Actions. Select one to continue. |
3 | Scroll down to the content tab and click within the white box. This will open the content editor. Add the text you wish to display to your guests upon logging in. You can also add images and style the content using HTML/CSS. |
4 | Next, select the Target Rules tab. Click Add Rule, a pop-up window will appear. For the Marketing Action to work you need to choose one of the Target Rules/Triggers within the condition dropdown list. See the table above to choose the best trigger for your action. |
5 | Click Save. |
SMS
Step | Description |
1 | Add a marketing action using the steps described in Adding a Marketing Action. |
2 | Within the General tab, tick enable within the SMS section. (There must be a phone number data field present on the portal page in order for the guest to enter their phone number and an SMS plugin enabled to be able to send an SMS message to the guest.) |
3 | Scroll down to the content tab and click within the white box. This will open the content editor. Add the text you wish to display to your guests upon logging in. You can also add images and style the content using HTML/CSS. |
4 | Next, select the Target Rules tab. Click Add Rule, a pop-up window will appear. For the Marketing Action to work you need to choose one of the Target Rules/Triggers within the condition dropdown list. See the table above to choose the best trigger for your action. |
5 | Click Save. |
Step | Description |
1 | Add a marketing action using the steps above. Once added, the configuration draw will open at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to configure your content, or select your action from the table. |

Email Verification
Email verification is a method of two-factor authentication. When a user enters their email address at login, they are sent an email by the platform (using Marketing Triggers) which contains a link to allow them to authenticate onto the network by confirming their email address. Email verification can be setup by using the marketing tools within the platform in conjunction with service tiers. Click here to see how to configure an Email Verification routine on your network.
