Introduction
The Assets page gives you a view of all connected network assets. Network assets are the vital devices required for your network to function correctly.
Location
Step | Description |
1 | Log into the platform. |
2 | Select Assets from the left side menu of the Home screen. |
Typical Network Assets
Asset | Description |
Switch | A network switch connects devices (such as computers, printers, wireless access points) in a network to each other, and allows them to 'talk' by exchanging data packets. Network Monitoring Feature required for Switches to appear in the Asset table. |
Router | A router is a packet switching device for networks, which is able to route network packets, based on their addresses, to other networks or devices. Among other things, they are used for Internet access, for coupling networks or for connecting branch offices to a central office via VPN (Virtual Private Network). |
Wireless Controller | A wireless LAN controller, or WLAN controller, monitors and manages wireless access points in bulk and allows wireless devices to connect to WLAN, a wireless network architecture. Network Monitoring Feature required for Wireless Controller to appear in the Asset table. |
Gateway | A gateway is a network node used in telecommunications that connects two networks with different transmission protocols together. Gateways serve as an entry and exit point for a network as all data must pass through or communicate with the gateway prior to being routed. |
AP | An access point is a device that creates a wireless local area network, or WLAN, usually in an office or large building. An access point connects to a wired router, switch, or hub via an Ethernet cable, and projects a WiFi signal to a designated area. Network Monitoring Feature required for APs to appear in the Asset table. |
Firewall | In computing, a firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. A firewall typically establishes a barrier between a trusted network and an untrusted network, such as the Internet. |
Other | Other devices include MikroTik Gateways, Printers and other Wireless enabled devices. |
Viewing an Asset
Step | Description |
1 | Select Assets from the left side menu of the Home screen. |
2 | Find the asset you want to view in the Assets table, use the filers to filter assets by status, vendor and device type. You can also search for the asset using the search box. |
3 | Once you've found the asset, click the three dots to the right of the table row and select view asset. |
4 | You will be taken to the device/asset details page. Here you view and edit the asset configuration. For more information on the fields related to this page, see Device/Asset Details below. |
Adding an Asset
Steps | Description |
1 | Navigate to the Assets page using the steps above. |
2 | Click Add Asset located at the top of the screen. A pop-up window will open. |
3 | Using the dropdown, select the device you wish to add. If the device you wish to add isn't present in the list, select Other. |
4 | A form will appear. Using the configuration details located below, fill in the required details for your device. |
