TABLE OF CONTENTS
Introduction
IP addresses can be written over in Captive Mikrotik Config, however as with all remote wan interface updates there is some risk attached - such as incorrect configuration being pushed or connectivity issues.
The following list will help installation partners prepare for an IP migration and minimise the risk of service downtime during the change.
- Is the Mikrotik WAN interface addressed publicly or privately (behind NAT).
- Do I have backup access in case things go wrong (Via gateway 2 or secondary IP)
- Can i configure an empty port?
- Do I use Conference Tool or MDU features?
- Do I use a connector?
- Do I use 802.1x or net AUTH plugins
- Do I use load balancing
- Do I have any other services, accessed outside -> in via the old IP
Change IP Details
The following table lists the steps for an IP change, writing over a existing IP and assumes that plugin services used the OLD IP.
If gateway is behind NAT, skip to #5.
If a new interface is used (rather than updating an existing one), skip steps #3 - 4 and create a new WAN interface in Asset -> Network -> Networks
