Captivnet Lite - Vendor Support

Created by irvin.aldridge@airangel.com, Modified on Wed, 14 Jun, 2023 at 12:50 PM by irvin.aldridge@airangel.com

Captivnet Lite has been established to support two goals:

  1. To provide a rapid roll-out option for sites with simple requirements, both economy and boutique. No additional gateway hardware is required on an existing site.
  2. To support new pure OEM cloud-managed gateway solutions like Cisco Meraki MX and Aruba Central 9004.

Note: there is no Mikrotik gateway in Captivnet Lite so there is no support for WAN load-balancing, NAT, DHCP, DNS. These services must be handled elsewhere on the LAN.

A detailed description of the missing features

  1. COA - Seamless upgrade of guest speed. The Radius update attribute is missing or not accepted by the vendor solution. In order for a guest device to be assigned a higher or lower speed once they are connected they would need to first log-out.
  2. Per Account Bandwidth Sharing - Where a single account is used by multiple devices, the devices may share a pool of bandwidth. Lite only support individual bandwidth limits.
  3. AAA Disable - Turning off the portal at a site level can only be done by making a config change on the vendor equipment
  4. Manual Certificate Updates - A valid certificate is required in order to deliver the portal experience, one vendor requires manual cert updates whilst other have a process linked to vendor Firmware.
