Introduction
In some instances where the full Conference tool cannot be deployed, there is a requirement to provide a “lite mode” to facilitate sites ability to run conferences.
“Lite Mode” is a term adopted within the conference tool documentation set to describe provision of a conference service across an entire venue using a manually configured SSID.
There is no method of provisioning Custom SSIDs or determining the location of an SSID when using conference tool lite.
The advantage of this deployment method is that there is not interaction with the wireless network infrastructure, allowing the service to be provisioned with networks from wireless vendors other than those listed on the supported vendors list.
This guide provides instructions for setting up a network to use “Lite Mode”.
Section 1: Network Prerequisites
The following actions need to be completed by the LAN service provider to facilitate operation with conference tool lite. These are beyond the scope of any configuration activities performed by Airangel and do not provide any specifics of the wireless equipment deployed (as each will be different).
The on-site wireless network must be configured as followed:
Step | Description |
1 | Deploy all wireless access points and supporting controllers of management systems as required. |
2 | Configure a conference SSID across the areas required. This SSID will be used for all conferences. |
3 | Map the conference SSID to a conference VLAN that will be used to carry conference user traffic |
4 | Provide conference VLAN (number) to Airangel MikroTik to configure the gateway - VLAN 27 is used in this document as an example. |
Section 2: Captivnet Setup

*This is not used operationally, but a dummy location is required in order to complete the conference builder wizard steps
**This should not be the same bridge that is used to assign the actual SSID/conference traffic to.
Gateway needs to assign a bridge as part of the setup process, but this does not actually get used by the conference. DO NOT use the same bridge that is carrying the actual conference traffic, as this will cause the bridge to have authentication disabled and users will not get a login portal.
